ABOUT TANTRICK
Tantrick Limited is a specialist spray tan company dedicated to spray tanning.
Tantrick’s staff are constantly researching solutions, machines and application methods and have done so since 2002 and therefore have a wealth of experience in both working with and providing training for both fields.
Tantrick's solutions are amongst the top selling solutions on the worldwide market today.
Tantrick have fully tested their solution and truly believe in its qualities. Tantrick have not worked alone on these projects; they have sought advice and practical guidance and worked closely with statutory and regulatory bodies such as the Trading Standards Authority, British Standards Institute, The CTPA, CTFA, The Health & Safety Executive, Customs & Excise and Senior Scientists from notable commercial laboratories.
We firmly believe this is the way forward in the spray tanning industry as it has significantly reduced overspray, dries quicker, is far easier to operate and is favoured by both client and therapist.
Tantrick tanning solution is Aloe Vera based and contains the active ingredient DHA. When applied to the skin DHA reacts with the amino acids within your skin and turns them brown.
This is known as the Millard Reaction, akin to the browning of an apple when it has been sliced and allowed to stand.
To enable the correct coverage of all skin types, Tantrick solution is available in 5%, 8%, 10% and 12% DHA.
The lower the percentage the more suited to lighter skin it will be. Most clients will have the 8%. Darker solutions being 10% and 12% are available for client who already have a good based tan or have darker skin colour.
If the 10% or 12% solution is used someone who has paler skin, they may not react well as the DHA content may be too much for their skin and turn orange – a test patch is advisable.
HOW DHA WORKS
- DHA interacts with the keratin protein in the surface skin layer [or "dead skin layer"], to produce the colour change, that resembles a UV based sun tan.
- this is why the results are temporary; this outer layer of skin is continually sloughing off. So your tan will fade. Most people lose about 25% of the skins dead surface cells every week. The skin surface is completely replaced every 28 to 35 days.
- DHA is safe on the skin, and does not seem to absorb past the dead surface skin cells. Melanin or natural skin pigment is not affected, or increased by DHA. [The bodies melanin or pigment producing cells are far below the skin surface, and do not come in contact with the DHA].
- Erythrulose is found in red raspberries. It is almost identical to DHA in chemical makeup and in the way it acts on the skin and the final colour.
- it does take longer to develop than DHA, and fades faster. It is lighter in depth, and richness.
- it is used in some products to "fine-tune" the colour, or to give a longer lasting tan. Some people, who are allergic to DHA sunless tanning products, can use Erythrulose products. But since the products are so closely related, it is not unusual for a person to have a reaction to both DHA and E.
HISTORY OF SUNLESS TANS
- the active tanning ingredient in all sunless tanning solutions are either Dihydroxyacetone [DHA] or Erythrulose [E].
- DHA is a product commonly derived from vegetable sources, often from sugar beets or sugar cane. It was "discovered" in the 1920’s, and later used as a treatment for Vitiligo.
- in the 1960’s Coppertone introduced the first home applied sunless tanning lotion, Quick Tan.
- in the 1970’s the Food and Drug Administration added DHA to their list of approved cosmetic ingredients.
- the 1980’s saw refinement in the manufacture of DHA to produce a better quality and more "natural looking" product.
